I don't plan on taking it off my journal or anything, I just thought some of you might want a hard copy of it...

Authors Note: Hey guys! Well, this is the new story I promised. I know it's not going to be for everyone, it will be quite dark at times. But it is a story that I had to tell, and I hope that some of you will take a chance on it and give it a shot. It will be, above all, a love story between two people. But, please heed the warnings!

1. Random thought. Is the Tivo dead? The Tivo was a big deal when it came out. But then every cable company in the world introduced DVR, which did the same thing cheaper and easier. Did the DVR kill the Tivo? Does anyone still have a Tivo and if so, what's its advantage over garden-variety DVR, which I do not know how I lived without?
2. Sporadically over the past few months, I have been rereading my old HP fic. I cringed to do so, fearing it would sound horribly juvenile after nine or so years of writing between me and it. Happily it holds up better than I thought, and gets better as the books progress. I still show my fangirl writing tendencies in it, though. It took the Brokeback fic to pound those mostly out of me. One thing I noticed, and I don't think I'm imagining it, is that the writing picked up some life and zest when I started writing about Napoleon. As an original character he was an outlet for something different that came from me, and I think the story was better for it. Of all the books and short works connected, the ones that hold up the best and that I still like the most are "Appomattox" and "Gettysburg," which, unsurprisingly, focus on Napoleon.
But DAMN. These chapters are loooooooooong. Way too long. Some of them are like sixty pages long. When I started in BBM I started restricting my chapter length to a sane, real-world-appropriate 10-15 Word pages (like 2000-4000 words) and I've stuck to that since. I can't imagine writing chapters this long now. Jinkies.
And criminy. I did love having the characters go off on heartfelt, totally unrealistic conversations about their deep feelings, didn't I? Ease up on the gas there, speedy.
3. Prepare to be shocked. I never saw HBP in the theaters. It came out one day before my surgery and I never got around to it. It ought to be coming out video soon, yes?
4. Gyllennews. Jake's new movie "Brothers" opens on Friday, and it's getting HUGE buzz. It could really be a sleeper wintertime hit and it's a surefire Oscar contender. For those unaware, it's based on a Danish film of the same name about an army captain (Tobey Maguire) and his wife (Natalie Portman) and his ne'er-do-well jailbird brother (Jake). The captain gets sent to Afghanistan and is MIA and presumed dead. The brother steps up and helps the wife take care of the kids and feelings are stirred up, and then the captain turns up not quite dead yet. Big drama ensues. Directed by Jim Sheridan, who directed "In the Name of the Father" and "My Left Foot" among other things. This movie was shot like two years ago and it's finally being released, thank you very much. And yes, Jake and Tobey are finally playing brothers after years of being compared to each other. Certainly promising; dare I say more so than Jake's summer blockbuster wannabe "Prince of Persia" which I hate to say looks pretty ridonkulous.
5. Random Sexy Gublerpic. Just cuz. Click to embiggen.

O_O OMFG.
That is all.

A multi-part one-shot starring Ennis and Jack in an AU Setting. Ennis owns a produce market in a small town in rural North Carolina. Jack works for UNC as a student counselor. In early summer, he begins stopping by Ennis's market on his trips to one of the U's satellite sites. By fall, he's ready to make his move, which is where the story starts up. :)

I got an email from my gym about an event they're hosting in December, a holiday "fun run" kind of event. A 5k walk/run. A Toys for Tots fundraiser.
I automatically went to trash it, assuming that I could never participate in such an event, as I've always disqualified myself from any athletic event. I could never do such a thing. I'm a fat girl. I can't be part of a sports event. Such things aren't for the likes of me.
But then I hesitated. Wait a second. Five kilometers. That's just over three miles. I regularly do 2.5 miles on the treadmill. I could certainly walk 3.1 miles, especially if I wasn't spending part of it doing intervals, as I do on the treadmill. If I just kept up a steady pace, I could do that.
I could participate in this athletic event. Me. Fat Girl Me. I could wear a number and clock a time and get a commemorative t-shirt saying "I did that. I walked 5K for a good cause. I didn't have the best time but I didn't have the worst, either. Just for a couple of hours, I was an athlete. And I'll do it again, and I'll do it faster next time."
My problem is that it's on December 20. I'm planning to drive to Wisconsin for the holidays that day (an eight hour drive). But I still could. The event is in the morning. It wouldn't take more than 90 minutes, probably less. I could do it, come home and shower, then leave.
I think I will. And hope there aren't two feet of snow on the ground. Which would be more of a problem for my drive than for this walk, but you know.

Here's the Necklace of the Day:

I love this necklace. It's a vintage art glass necklace I found in one of my favorite little jewelry shops down in German Village. I don't wear it that often because oddly enough the jewel tones of the glass marbles and the tarnished-gold of the chains mean it doesn't actually go with that much stuff.
That knitted thing I'm wearing is a handmade mohair shrug I got on Etsy. I lurves it.

See, this is why I buy more than one latte whenever I go to Starbucks, so I can have one in the fridge in case of a latte emergency and oh my God am I the saddest person ever? I might just be.
In other news, I am bereft because the OMG AWESOMEST BEEF JERKY EVER that Eric brought me from Jungle Jim's is almost gone. I am seriously considering driving down to Cincinnati just to buy up a bunch of it. I could order it online but the shipping they charge is OUTRAGEOUS. You don't understand my relationship with beef jerky. It's a staple to my diet the way bread is to normal people. Seriously. Last night Eric asked to have a piece and I went all Gollum on him and clutched the package to my chest. "It's my precious!" I hissed. He backed away slowly. I gave him a piece once I recovered my sanity, though.
I have discovered one annoying thing about the Droid. I know, it's shocking. Here's the thing. It makes it really easy to email photos from the phone. There's a little "share" button and you can pick Gmail, Facebook, text message, whatever way you want to share it. I took a Necklace of the Day photo this morning, and I have to get it either to my Gmail account or to Photobucket so I can post it. I did this last week, too. But it takes a loooooong time to show up there, like a couple of hours. On my old phone it was pretty much instantaneous as an email usually is. I don't know why that should be since this phone is synced up with Google, so you'd think a Gmail would be right there. I've noticed that the Gmail on the phone is always lagging behind the Gmail on my computer, too. Huh. Oh well.
Had the peeps over for Sunday night dinner, except poor Dayna is sick and stayed home. But Jessimi came, which she doesn't often do, so yay. I made Casserole LeMewl, always a crowd pleaser and super easy. You can't go wrong with sausage and chicken-flavored things. Brian's hooked on this VH1 reality show called "Tough Love" where a bunch of clueless women of varying degrees of skankiness get told off repeatedly by a professional matchmaker who's going to help them learn why they send men running for the hills. It was on and he was all excited so we watched it. It was just as trashy as you might imagine, although a few of the women didn't seem completely hopeless.
People keep asking me about my plans for Thanksgiving. Here are my plans: do nothing. My only concrete plan is to go to the gym and maybe drive to Cincinnati on a jerky run. Other than that, I plan to a) write b) read books c) stitch and d) watch movies. I'm hoping for nice weather so I can maybe take a nice walk in a park instead of going to the gym one day. The last few years I've had people over and I've cooked a big dinner and I'm not doing it this year. Ha. The funny thing is that this might seem sad and lonesome, but every single person who I've described this plan to has gotten this wistful look on their face and said something like "Oh my God, that sounds divine."
